Restoring an old, worn out or damaged roof will improve the overall appeal of your home. A restored roof will reflect the heat more effectively, making your home more protected from the outside elements and more energy efficient reducing the cost of your heating and cooling bills.
Our restorations involve high pressure cleaning, replacement of broken tiles, re bedding and pointing of ridge caps, and priming and or master sealing of tiles. The final touch is three coats of premium Xtreme high gloss paint in the colour of your choice.
The type of roof you have will determine the best time of year to have it restored. Colder months are best for terracotta restorations, re-bedding and pointing. Warmer months are best for other restorations especially those that involve painting.
What type of roofs do you restore?
We restore both cement and terracotta roof tiles as well as iron roofs (provided they’re in good condition). We can replace decrabond, slate and asbestos roofing but not restore these types.
TERRACOTTA RESTORATIONS
Terracotta roof restoration can increase your property value and increase the street appeal of your house. A restored tile roof involves high pressure cleaning, replacing broken tiles, bedding and pointing of ridge caps and protection against pests.
Bedding is the process of removing all ridge caps and replacing the cement underneath. Evidence of cracks or moss growing out of your ridge caps is the first sign that breakdown is occurring.
Understanding the condition of your ridge caps will go a long way in saving you money. If the bedding underneath ridge caps is exposed to consistent moisture the breakdown of your ridge caps is accelerated leading to more leaks and ongoing issues.
Flexi-point is a compound mixture (sand, cement & rubber) that adheres to both the bedding, tiles and ridge caps to ensure binding of all materials. This is applied after the bedding process and has a C4 wind classification according to Australian standards.
The bedding and pointing of valleys has proved to cause rust and corrosion when exposed to moisture. We highly recommend using a product called valley seal or simply clipping all valley cut tiles.
What should I be looking for when determining if work is needed on my ridge caps?
Moss growing from your ridge caps or cracks in tiles is the first sign that breakdown is occurring. Understanding the condition of your roof will save you money.
ROOF DE MOSS
Lichen and moss build up is one of the main causes of roof leaks and degradation of your tiles and roofing iron. De mossing is generally a two step process:
1. High pressure cleaning the entire surface, ensuring all organic material has been removed.
2. Treat the bacteria which caused the moss and lichen to grow with an anti fungicide. This process kills the bacteria and significantly delays the return of unwanted moss and lichen.
De mossing reduces chances of leaks and is aesthetically pleasing.
Is it possible to stop moss/lichen from coming back forever?
Reappearance of moss or lichen is dependent on weather conditions and location. While it is almost impossible to stop our process of treating the bacteria can significantly delay its return. In the right environment it can take up to 10 years to return.
